Now

This page is for sharing what I’m working on right now.

General

I’ve been loosely following the ChessDojo training program since early 2024.

Openings

I’m currently considering whether or not I should switch back to a quieter opening repertoire as Black. I’ve had good results playing the Sicilian defence, but I find myself enjoying the game more when there’s a more closed position on the board.

Endgames

I’m currently studying Silman’s Complete Endgame Course by Jeremy Silman. To add a practical element, I’m reading Capablanca’s Best Chess Endings by Irving Chernev on the side.

Tactics

For focused tactics training, I’m working through 1001 Chess Exercises for Club Players by Frank Erwich. When I don’t have the time to sit down with a book, I do mixed set tactics training on Chess Tempo.

Strategy

For strategy I’m working through two books by Jeremy Silman. My main focus is on studying the 4th edition of How to Reassess Your Chess. I previously read The Amateur’s Mind, but I have not finished the test positions yet, so I’m solving those on the side.

Other

For lighter work/entertainment, I’m reading books like:

  • Petrosian: Move by Move by Thomas Engqvist
  • Alekhine: Move by Move by Steve Giddins
  • Kramnik: Move by Move by Cyrus Lakdawala
  • The Sicilian Labyrinth 1 & 2 by Lev Polugaevsky
  • etc…
